This is a couch game, not a remote group game. The useful setup is one screen, one supported system and two controllers. That can be excellent for a parent and child, siblings, partners or friends who meet in person. It also means the host does not need to coordinate accounts, subscriptions and cross-platform invites before playing.

The limitation is equally important. Native online co-op is not available. Do not buy two copies expecting a normal internet session. PC streaming features offered by a storefront may let someone stream local play remotely, but that is not the same as publisher-supported online multiplayer and should not be promised as an equivalent experience.

Warner describes an open-world Gotham with story missions, crimes, puzzles, challenges and collectibles. Seven playable characters have different skills, gadgets and progression trees. That gives a local pair useful reasons to communicate: one person can notice a route or puzzle while the other handles movement, combat or a different tool.

The game also includes more than 20 vehicles, 100 suits and outfits, and over 250 Batcave items according to the official FAQ. Those numbers describe the scope, not the quality of every activity. A good co-op fit depends on whether both players enjoy exploring and collecting at a similar pace. One person rushing the story while the other searches every rooftop can make a relaxed game feel surprisingly tense.

PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions are available now. Nintendo Switch 2 follows on 18 September. The official FAQ says an online membership is not required to play on the supported console versions. Updates still need internet access, so install and update the game before a planned offline weekend.

Do not choose the Deluxe Edition because you assume it adds online co-op. Its extra content is built around suits, vehicles, Batcave items and the Mayhem content. The multiplayer boundary remains local. Choose an edition because you value its confirmed content, not because a more expensive label appears to solve a mode the developer has not included.

Local co-op succeeds or fails in the room where it happens. Two players need the same supported system, enough controllers, a screen both can read and regular access to the same save. That is very different from an online game where each person owns a copy and can join from home. The local-only boundary can be a strength for a household, parent and child, couple or visiting friend because the session has a shared rhythm and no remote lobby friction. It is a hard stop for friends whose normal plan depends on separate homes.

Agree on campaign ownership before the first long session. Decide whose profile holds the main save, whether solo progress between sessions is welcome and how you will handle collectibles one player wants to chase. LEGO games are forgiving, but different attitudes toward exploration can still create friction. One person may want to finish the story while the other checks every corner. A short conversation turns that difference into a role instead of a reason to stop playing together.

Switch 2 adds another timing decision because its version follows the other listed platforms. Wait for that version when portability or Nintendo hardware is essential. Choose an available platform when the shared television, controllers and save access already work better there. Deluxe content cannot fix an inconvenient room or missing online mode. The practical setup matters more than the longest feature list.
