Monster Hunter Wilds: How to Play With Friends
Understand Monster Hunter Wilds lobbies, Link Parties and Environment Links, with the later quest-counter changes that older co-op guides can miss.

01 / Use a Link Party for a continuing group
Use a Link Party for a continuing group
Monster Hunter Wilds supports crossplay between PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. For friends who want to keep hunting together, Capcom's multiplayer introduction points to a Link Party: members receive invitations when another member starts a quest, even if they are in different lobbies.
A lobby, a Link Party and an Environment Link are not three names for the same thing. Decide whether you want repeated quest invitations or shared exploration before trying to make everyone's screens look identical.

Lobby
A wider gathering place.Friends in the same lobby can post and join each other's quests. Being in a lobby is not the same as being together in every field environment.
Link Party
A continuing quest group.Send a request to a hunter on your friends list. Capcom explains that party members receive quest invitations and return to their lobby after a quest.
Environment Link
Explore the host's environment together. The locale and its conditions follow the host, giving the group a shared setting for exploration and hunting.
SOS Flare
Find help for a hunt. This is a route into hunts with the wider player base, not a substitute for agreeing on a private evening with specific friends.
03 / A practical order for the first shared hunt
A practical order for the first shared hunt
- Update everyone's game firstCapcom requires the latest version for online multiplayer. Have each player finish downloads before troubleshooting an invitation.
- Form the continuing groupUse the hunter friends list to send a Link Party request and confirm that the intended players have joined. Sharing a lobby alone does not establish this arrangement.
- Choose one attainable questAgree who will post it and let everyone check the quest's displayed requirements. A social invitation is not proof that every character has the necessary progression.
- Follow the quest invitationWhen the party member starts the quest, use the invitation to join. If one person is left behind, compare the actual message and quest requirements before disbanding every connection.
- Use Environment Link for the exploration planChoose it when the shared locale matters. Tell the group whether the aim is wandering, gathering or pursuing a particular hunt so nobody waits at a counter unnecessarily.
04 / Older Environment Link restrictions are not current advice
Older Environment Link restrictions are not current advice
Capcom's version 1.020 update added accepting and joining quests from the quest counter during an Environment Link. An older guide saying that this is categorically impossible misses that change. The later version 1.030 update also added Link Party passcodes and a setting controlling whether other hunter friends can join.
For a private group, review those access controls rather than treating every friend-of-a-friend as an intended participant. Neither update means all quests ignore story or rank requirements. Keep the connection question separate from the eligibility question: 'Can I reach my friend's group?' and 'Can my character join this quest?' need different checks.
05 / Troubleshoot the missing layer, not the whole game
Troubleshoot the missing layer, not the whole game
If the party exists but one quest is unavailable, start with progression and the quest's requirements. If invitations never reach the intended players, check the party membership, access settings and installed version. If everyone expected to wander the same environment, confirm that you arranged an Environment Link.
For a first session, choose something the least-progressed player can access. Once that works, move to the intended hunt. This gives the group a known working starting point without repeatedly rebuilding every connection or assuming crossplay itself is broken.
