Can you continue the same No Man's Sky journey?

Yes. Hello Games provides a cross-save service for PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It can hold up to five saves. Connect your chosen platform accounts on the official Hello Games Cloud site, then use the game's save controls to move the playthrough you want.

Cross-save answers where your progress can go. It does not answer whether you own the destination version. Keep those checks separate before buying a new copy or retiring an old device.

Know which problem you are solving

One long-running playthrough

Move the intended save

Write down something recognisable about it before you begin. The objective is continuity, not simply seeing any save on the new device.

Several different journeys

Choose your cloud selection

Prioritise the saves you actually want to alternate between. Cloud storage is not an unlimited archive of every experiment.

Friends on another platform

Check multiplayer separately

Joining someone else's session and moving your own save are different tasks. One does not establish that the other is configured.

A replacement console

Preserve the working source first

Do not wipe or hand away your original device before checking the destination playthrough.

The documented transfer sequence

  1. 01

    Connect your platform accounts

Start on the official Hello Games Cloud account connection page. Confirm that each signed-in account belongs to the platform profile you intend to use.

  2. 02

    Upload from the source game

Launch a connected version. Hello Games says the most recent save uploads automatically; the empty cloud icon beside another local save lets you add that save.

  3. 03

    Download on the destination

Open the in-game Cross-Save Manager from save selection on the connected destination platform, then choose the uploaded save for local storage.

  4. 04

    Check before continuing

Open the playthrough and compare it with your keeper-save notes. Our precaution is to confirm its identity and progress before playing a long session or removing any old data.

Handle a conflict deliberately

Hello Games says a mismatch in file size and timestamp can trigger a choice between versions. Pause at that choice. Think back to which device you played last and what you accomplished there; do not pick a file purely because its position in the menu looks like the default.

Our recommendation is to transfer during a quiet moment, with both devices available and enough time to inspect the result. Trying to do it while a group waits in voice chat creates pressure to dismiss the very prompts that deserve attention.

If the expected save is missing

  • Check the connection toggleThe official FAQ points users back to the platform's cross-save toggle on the account connection page. A linked account and an enabled feature are not always the same check.
  • Check the account identityOn a family device, verify the actual profile names. A successful login is not evidence that you connected the profile holding your journey.
  • Keep the source unchangedDo not delete files or disconnect every account as a first troubleshooting experiment. Preserve the state that still works and report an unresolved issue to official support with the platforms and symptoms.

Our recommendation

Treat the first transfer as a small verification task: identify, connect, upload, download and check. Once you know the destination contains the playthrough you wanted, you can decide whether that device should become your regular home. The important result is recognising your journey, not completing a setup screen.
