PEAK Multiplayer: Friends and Private Lobbies
PEAK has no matchmaking. Learn how to organise a group, set Invite Only correctly and respond if an unwanted player enters your climbing session.

01 / There is no public matchmaking queue
There is no public matchmaking queue
PEAK's current PC release uses Steam friends, not automatic matchmaking. Landfall confirms that you can also play alone offline. For a cooperative climb, organise companions before opening the game; owning an online co-op game does not mean it will assemble a team for you.
The official FAQ is particularly useful if someone joins without permission. Its prevention advice applies to everyone in the lobby, not only the host.
02 / Set up the private session before climbing
Set up the private session before climbing
- Ask every participant to select Invite OnlyIn the game's settings, set Lobby Mode to Invite Only. Landfall specifies everyone in the lobby, so check with each person rather than assuming the host's choice is enough.
- Re-host after changing the settingsLeave the old lobby and have the host create the session again. This is part of the developer's documented advice, not an optional cosmetic refresh.
- Consider Steam profile privacyLandfall recommends a Private Steam profile for additional protection. Review that choice deliberately: it changes profile visibility, not just the settings for this one climb.
- Let the host remove an unwanted visitorThe FAQ says the host can kick the player to prevent them rejoining that game. Do not treat this as a guarantee against every possible future intrusion.
03 / Finding people is a social step, not a hidden menu
Finding people is a social step, not a hidden menu
If your usual friends are unavailable, Landfall points players towards its community Discord. Use that as a place to arrange a group, then decide whom you actually want to invite. There is no need to make a private session publicly joinable simply because you met the players in a public community.
A useful invitation says whether this is a first climb, whether spoilers are welcome, and how you intend to communicate. Someone hoping to discover routes can have a very different evening from someone trying to guide the fastest ascent. Agreeing on that takes less time than discovering the mismatch halfway up.
04 / Match the group to the evening
Match the group to the evening
A familiar group
Set expectations briefly, then climb.Ask whether tonight is for experimenting or pursuing a specific goal. Even regular friends do not always arrive with the same plan.
A new community group
Start with a clear invitation.State your experience level and desired pace without requiring anyone to pretend to be more skilled than they are.
A streamed session
Separate audience access from player access.Decide whom you are inviting before broadcasting identifiers or invitations. Treat private-lobby controls as protection to maintain, not a one-time promise.
Friends waiting for console versions
Check release status again.Landfall currently describes console editions and cross-platform play as forthcoming. An announcement is not an available console session.
05 / Keep access and teamwork separate
Keep access and teamwork separate
Use Invite Only, re-host after changing it, and make sure the whole group has checked the setting. Once access is settled, spend the evening discussing the climb rather than policing the lobby.
If an unwanted player still gets in, end the disrupted session if necessary and use Landfall's official support route to report the problem. Do not retaliate or share another player's personal information. The goal is a playable evening with the people you intended to invite, not an argument with an intruder.
