Satisfactory Crossplay and Dedicated Server Limits

Check Satisfactory's PC and console multiplayer boundaries before buying together, then choose between a player-hosted factory and a dedicated server.

Choose the platform group before choosing a server

Satisfactory does not put every version in the same multiplayer pool. Coffee Stain's support page separates PC multiplayer from console crossplay: PlayStation and Xbox can play together, but consoles cannot join PC players or PC dedicated servers.

That distinction should come before any discussion of server rental. If one friend owns the PC version and another owns a console version, buying hosting does not bridge the gap. First agree on a supported platform group; only then decide who will run the factory.

Which combinations work?

Steam and Epic Games Store

PC players can play together.

Coffee Stain documents Session IDs and an optional Epic friends connection. A PC player does not need an Epic account simply to play online.

PlayStation and Xbox

Console crossplay is supported.

Console multiplayer requires an Epic account. Link accounts in Online Settings and become Epic friends to find each other's sessions.

PC and console

Not supported.

The developer describes these as separate ecosystems, not a pending feature you should buy in anticipation of.

Console and a dedicated server

Not supported.

Dedicated-server availability on PC does not mean the console edition can connect to it.

Two players on one screen

No split-screen co-op.

Plan around separate devices, not an extra controller attached to the same console.

Player hosting and dedicated hosting solve different problems

For a group with a regular shared evening, player hosting is the simpler arrangement to discuss first. Pick the person who is usually available, agree when sessions end, and make responsibility for the save explicit. The practical downside is dependence on that person's session: a friend finishing work early cannot assume the factory is waiting for them.

For a compatible PC group, a dedicated server can separate availability from one player's gaming session. That also creates a maintenance job. Someone still needs to understand updates, access and backups. Paid hosting does not remove those decisions; it changes who supplies the machine.

A useful question is not whether a dedicated server sounds more serious. It is whether different schedules actually prevent the group from playing. A small group that always meets together may gain little from extra infrastructure. A builder who regularly plays at different hours has a clearer reason to investigate it.

Agree on these details before the first conveyor

  • Write down everyone's actual editionRecord PC storefront or console platform. 'We all own Satisfactory' is not enough to establish compatibility.
  • Decide who can change the shared factoryDiscuss large rebuilds, dismantling and major progression while others are absent. Connectivity settings cannot resolve different expectations about ownership.
  • Choose a save and a recovery ownerKnow which world is authoritative and who can restore it. Avoid two friends independently continuing separate copies and expecting the changes to merge.
  • Check access before the planned eveningOn consoles, verify the linked Epic accounts and friends connection. If the session is missing, review relevant visibility settings deliberately rather than making every privacy option public.

Buy for the group you can actually form

Start with the compatibility table. Console groups should plan around supported console sessions; mixed PC-and-console groups need a different arrangement or a different game. Compatible PC groups can then decide whether independent server availability is worth maintaining.

Before committing to a long-running factory, try a short shared session and agree how you will handle absences. Discovering a mismatch after one evening is easier than relocating everyone's plans after a substantial build.
